What is OPI and what is the difference between a machine with and without it?Updated 7 months ago

OPI (Oxygen Percentage Indicator) is a feature found in some oxygen concentrators, like the Respironics Millennium M10. The key difference between OPI and non-OPI oxygen concentrators lies in the ability to monitor and display the oxygen concentration levels being delivered by the machine:

OPI Oxygen Concentrators:

  • Equipped with an Oxygen Percentage Indicator.
  • Constantly monitors the purity of oxygen being delivered to the user.
  • Displays a warning (e.g., via alarms or indicator lights) if the oxygen concentration falls below a certain threshold, ensuring the user is getting the right amount of oxygen.

Non-OPI Oxygen Concentrators:

  • Do not have the capability to monitor or display oxygen purity.
  • These machines deliver oxygen, but users or caregivers may not have a real-time indication of whether the oxygen being supplied is at the optimal concentration, unless additional monitoring devices are used.

The OPI feature adds an extra layer of safety by ensuring that the oxygen concentrator is functioning properly and delivering the correct oxygen levels.
